Dr. Stephen Wherenberg has written one of the best articles I’ve ever read about how to successfully manage change in organizations. Dr. Wherenberg creates a model that illustrates the reinforcing cycle of culture building in organizations. He then describes how to simultaneously identify and use the organization’s unique cycle for creating its culture to change the culture. The article, The Coast Guard Charts A Course for Enterprise Change Management, appeared in Global Business and Organizational Excellence, a Wiley publication. Dr. Stephen Wehrenberg is the director of human resource strategy and director of executive development, for the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, DC. He leads a multi year effort to create the infrastructure that will provide the Coast Guard’s future workforce with the competencies needed to pursue an ever-changing set of missions. Dr. Wehrenberg is also a Professorial Lecturer in Organizational Sciences in the Graduate Organizational Sciences Program at The George Washington University.
