ON LEADING AND BE-ING HUMAN

Why Women – Lee J. Carey

First Twitter

I believe Twitter was my coming out party. Until then my focus was more local and narrower. Historically women in business and management were part of my culture.  Heroines like Grace Hopper formed and informed our technical existence. Twitter revealed a bigger more dire picture that was a shock to me.  I had never stopped to think how few and far between female leaders really appeared. Which of course raised the question, why?

Then the Mirror

It seemed important to start close to home. So as usual I went to the mirror.
I am part of the problem. As a male with decades of management, I had started to believe management was an extension of man. Most published materials I had collected were from male authors. Enough said on history.

Twitter instantly became a portal to female and male publications by way of Tweets, Blogs, and Links
So to be honest, it was not an internal wisdom that woke in me and started pushing me to speak up for women in management and leadership. It is the wealth of knowledge shared by people who know the world and business can be improved when more women lead side by side with men.

Lee J. Carey

P.S. I know Lee as an avid supporter of women leaders. While he claims it was not internal wisdom, I believe it is an internal wisdom that causes us to listen, and Lee listens. To me he is also the Word Pretzel – sending bits of wisdom by creating unusual twists of words and phrases. Lee runs Outsourcing Oasis – a B2B sales outsourcing network of senior middle managers.
