My google alerts are set to various combinations of “women” plus “business” “leader” “leadership” “conference.” Last week’s hits included an article about Miami University Farmer School of Business where our son Jordan is a business major. I contacted the young women involved in the school’s Women in Business initiative and invited them to write something for NOW Leadership. Here it is. I hope they will submit posts for future issues, perhaps focusing on their personal journeys, their thoughts about leadership and their experiences to date.
Miami University Women in Business (MUWIB) offers many philanthropy opportunities for members. The underlying mission of MUWIB philanthropy is to promote our Women-to-Women initiatives. Each member is required to complete an individual philanthropy project with focus on helping women business owners with specific services that range from marketing, accounting, finance, or expansion strategies. MUWIB has formed an official partnership with the Regional Earned Income Tax Credit Collaborative (EITC) led by United Way of Greater Cincinnati for the 2010 tax year. State and federal tax returns are prepared and e-filed at no charge to filers that earn less than $49,000. Wage earners may also be eligible for refundable EITC and other tax credits. The tax site is located at the Oxford Family Resource Center, 5445 College Corner Pike and is open on:
Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. – February 22, March 1, 22, 29, April 5, 12
Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – February 26, March 19, 26, April 2, 9
The tax clinic is staffed by twenty-three dedicated Women in Business members and Farmer School of Business students. Several other convenient sites and additional information may be found at www.makeworkpay.com
